When God Fights You

Episode 276 – When God Fights You
This strong and direct episode of the Mavericks & Misfits podcast confronts us with a fundamental choice that shapes our entire spiritual journey: will we be people whom God opposes, or people whom God graces? Drawing from James chapter 4, we're challenged to examine the wars within ourselves, and among ourselves as a body of believers—the passions, desires, and instincts that breed quarrels, conflicts, and spiritual compromise. The text doesn't mince words: God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. We're called to move beyond superficial Christianity that focuses on everyone else's flaws while excusing our own. True discipleship requires us to get uncomfortable, to mourn over what's lacking in us, to ask God to reveal our blind spots, and to cultivate the humility that marked our very first step into the Kingdom. When we first came to Christ, we had to admit we were wrong, we were sinners in need of a Savior. Somehow, once we're saved, apologizing and repenting becomes harder. This message invites us into a lifelong practice of self-examination, genuine repentance, and the kind of humility that doesn't wait for others to go first. When we choose this path, we become companions of the Lord rather than opponents He must fight against.
